Intuitive Abstract Painting & Mark Making Workshop
A painting workshop led by Cynthia Brown
ABOUT
This class is designed for any level of artist, whether you’re a seasoned painter or someone who has never painted before. It’s a safe environment where I will encourage you to connect to your heart instead of your brain and allow yourself to simply have fun and experience the joy of mark making and pushing paint around. We will do some simple stretching and movement to assist with the heart connection and also sometimes work with your non dominant hand which is a wonderful way to connect to your child within.
Both mornings I will give you a series of warm up exercises on paper for loosening up and for different approaches to beginning a painting.
We’ll take an hour lunch break both days around noon. There is a kitchen and fridge right down the hall if you would like to bring your lunch. There are also several restaurants nearby.
After lunch I’ll do a demonstration and then you will have free time to begin a painting on canvas or explore further on your paintings from the morning exercises.
I will supply paint, paper, a plethora of drawing tools and media, paper plates, acrylic gel medium, paint, foam brushes, cheap hardware brushes, bamboo brushes, tape, water containers, push pins, and an array of texture tools.
This is a high energy, fun workshop with a casual vibe and a clean beautiful studio. Please let me know if you have any questions. I hope you can join us!

Workshops I have Attended Recently
Throughout the years, I've been fortunate to have had an array of good instructors, providing me with great advice and amazing support. Continuing one's growth as an artist is a lifelong process and embedded within that journey is one's personal development as a person. Painting is challenging mentally, spiritually and physically.
i've been practicing yoga almost as long as I've been creating art and for me it's one of the keys that helps keep me connected to myself and my work. I constantly strive to grow and develop new techniques. Below are a images from a recent workshop I attended in 2015, and a residency in 2014.

DOING THE WORK OF YOUR LIFE: MOVING BEYOND FEAR
These are a few images from a workshop I completed in August 2015, in Maine.
The workshop brought together the talents of three amazing women who led us through a four day holistic workshop of exercises in painting and centering the self to deepen our connection to our work. It was a wonderful experience that left me with a renewed sense of creative purpose and passion.
Challenging and yet restorative, it completely reinforced my belief in the necessity for us as artists to continue to explore our approach to our work; precisely the approach I want to instill in artists who attend my classes.

Artist in Residence at the Mark Rothko Art Centre
In June 2014, I was selected as an artist in Artist in Residence at the Mark Rothko Art Centre in Daugavpils, Latvia. Eleven artists from around the world will serve in residency for three weeks and two works from each artist will become part of the permanent collection of the Art Centre.
