Finding Your Voice in Abstract Painting
A painting workshop led by Cynthia Brown
ABOUT
My workshop are explorations of mark making and painting with freedom and courage. Creative settings where you can let go of fear, turn off your inner critic and play; allowing your inner child to emerge and explore how body movement can affect your paintings.
Dance, yoga, music, mood, energy are all integral parts of my approach to painting and over the course of the workshop we will be using a variety of these techniques.
Both days we will have a short movement session in which the connection between body, mind and spirit will be emphasized as a means of:
Through a bit of yoga, meditation and breathing we will enhance our day of painting. Yoga mats will be provided (sitting in a chair works just as well if that's more comfortable).
Each morning will begin with a some loosening up exercises using a variety of painting/mark-making tools. We will work on paper and have a quick painting exercise followed by working on canvases in the afternoon.
Music will be an integral part of the class to help us flow!

Workshops I have Attended Recently
Throughout the years, I've been fortunate to have had an array of good instructors, providing me with great advice and amazing support. Continuing one's growth as an artist is a lifelong process and embedded within that journey is one's personal development as a person. Painting is challenging mentally, spiritually and physically.
i've been practicing yoga almost as long as I've been creating art and for me it's one of the keys that helps keep me connected to myself and my work. I constantly strive to grow and develop new techniques. Below are a images from a recent workshop I attended in 2015, and a residency in 2014.

DOING THE WORK OF YOUR LIFE: MOVING BEYOND FEAR
These are a few images from a workshop I completed in August 2015, in Maine.
The workshop brought together the talents of three amazing women who led us through a four day holistic workshop of exercises in painting and centering the self to deepen our connection to our work. It was a wonderful experience that left me with a renewed sense of creative purpose and passion.
Challenging and yet restorative, it completely reinforced my belief in the necessity for us as artists to continue to explore our approach to our work; precisely the approach I want to instill in artists who attend my classes.
